The Ultimate All-in-One Exam Photo & Signature Resizer Guide (2026)
Applying for government jobs in India requires navigating a maze of different online portals, each with its own uniquely frustrating set of rules for uploading personal documents. Whether you are applying for the Staff Selection Commission (SSC), the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS), Railway Recruitment Board (RRB), Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), or defence forces via the Agnipath scheme, failing to meet their exact visual parameters will result in immediate disqualification. Our universal tool hard-codes the exact specifications for all these major exams into one easy interface, ensuring you never face an "Invalid File Size" error again.
1. SSC Exams (CGL, CHSL, MTS, GD) Requirements
The Staff Selection Commission operates on the new OTR portal. Across almost all its exams (CGL, CHSL, MTS, GD Constable, JE, Steno), the rules are completely standardized. You must upload a passport photograph measuring 3.5×4.5 cm (optimally mapped to 200x230 px digitally). The file must weigh between 20 KB and 50 KB. The background must be solid white. Crucially, SSC enforces a zero-tolerance policy against wearing spectacles or caps. For your signature, you must sign in a running hand (no block letters) on white paper. The digital size is 140x60 px, and the file weight must be incredibly small: strictly between 10 KB and 20 KB.
2. Banking Exams (IBPS, SBI, RBI) Specifications
The banking sector (IBPS PO, IBPS Clerk, SBI PO, SBI Clerk, RBI) has distinct requirements, most notably the addition of the Left Thumb Impression and the Handwritten Declaration. Your photograph must be 200x230 px and 20-50 KB with a white background. However, signature rules diverge: while IBPS requires a 140x60 px signature (10-20 KB), SBI demands a massive 800x300 px wide-format signature (up to 100 KB). The handwritten declaration for all banking exams must be penned in English on white paper with black ink, and scaled to roughly 800x400 px to fit the 50 KB to 100 KB file limit.
3. Railway Exams (RRB NTPC, Group D, ALP) Mandates
The Railway Recruitment Board requires photographs sized at 35mm x 45mm (digitally 320x240 px) staying between the 30 KB and 70 KB marks. While the background must be plain white, the RRB often strongly encourages (and sometimes explicitly mandates) the addition of your printed Name and Date of capture at the bottom of the photo. Our tool allows you to automatically overlay this white strip and text without needing Photoshop. The RRB signature must be sized to 140x60 px and compressed between 10 KB and 40 KB.
4. Defence Exams (Agniveer Army, Navy, Airforce) & The Slate Rule
Defence exams are the most visually rigorous. The Agniveer Army requires a standard 200x200 px square photo (up to 50 KB) with a plain white background. However, the Agniveer Navy and Airforce enforce the mandatory "Black Slate" rule. You must be photographed holding a black slate on your chest with your name and date written in white chalk. Additionally, the Airforce strictly requires a Sky Blue background. Our API-powered tool can automatically replace your background with the official Sky Blue and digitally generate a perfectly aligned black slate over your chest, formatting the entire image to the specific 100x120 px Airforce limit or the 413x531 px Navy limit.
5. UPSC (CSE, NDA, CDS, CAPF) Master Guidelines
The Union Public Service Commission uses a distinct square-format scaling method for its OTR portal. Your photograph must be sized between 350 and 1000 pixels on both sides (e.g., 500x500 px) and can weigh up to 300 KB, but no less than 20 KB. It must have a white background, and your face must take up 3/4th of the frame. For the CSE, you must embed your name and date at the bottom. Signatures also follow a square aspect ratio (350-550 px). Our UPSC setting automatically maps your files to these exact, high-resolution square canvases.
Why Our Universal Binary Search Compressor is Essential
Managing five different portal rules with different pixel aspect ratios, kilobyte limits, and background colors is impossible on generic mobile editors. Our proprietary HTML5 JavaScript engine handles everything. By selecting your exam from the dropdown, the tool dynamically alters the canvas size. It then utilizes an advanced binary-search compression algorithm to recursively push your file as close to the maximum KB limit as possible, ensuring you never lose clarity due to over-compression. Best of all, your sensitive identity documents are processed 100% locally on your device—they are never uploaded to any external server.
